Portland's Megan Rapinoe, the 2005 Soccer America Freshman of the Year, will miss the remainder of the 2006 season with a torn ACL in her left knee.
The injury came less than a week after she scored her first two goals for the U.S. women's national team in a 10-0 win over Chinese Taipei in a friendly game.
Rapinoe went down with the injury late in the first half of Portland's 2-1 victory over Washington State on Thursday. Doctors have scheduled Rapinoe for surgery on Wednesday. Typical recovery time for an injury of this sort is 6-9 months.
Rapinoe, one of five All-Americas on Portland's 2005 national championship team, had 10 goals and two assists for 22 points in 11 games this season. Portland is ranked No. 4 in the latest Soccer America Top 25.
