The MetroStars announced the signing of Brazilian defender Branco on July 20. A starting defender for the past three Brazilian World Cup squads, Branco has played professionally in Italy, England and Portugal as well as his native country. “It’s a new challenge for me,” said Branco. “I have played in many different league and have gained valuable experience along the way. I believe this will be another great experience and I am looking to make the most of it. I saw the MetroStars game with Galatasaray on television in Brazil and think they have a good team. The league is gaining a lot of notice around the world.” Barring visa difficulties, Branco is expected to make his MLS debut July 27 when the MetroStars host D.C. United.
