Juventus shot down an offer from Inter Milan for Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Italian news agency ANSA reported Tuesday. “It would annoy me to let him go for the wrong price because Juve has to be able to look after its interests,” said Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, who has had to watch his stars leave the relegated club one by one since a sports tribunal found his club guilty of match-fixing. Financial details of the Inter offer were not disclosed but Juventus has said they want $51 million for the 25-year-old striker. Juve’s rejection of their offer may suit Inter Milan just fine, as the club earlier this week secured a two-year deal for Argentine poacher Hernan Crespo. Crosstown rival AC Milan is the only other club that expressed an interest in signing the expensive striker, who could be out of luck if Juve refuses to relent on his high price tag. Ibrahimovic has stated through his agent that he has no intention of playing in Serie B next season. But that’s exactly what he’ll have to do if the price isn’t right. The sanctions that have seen Juventus relegated and stripped of its last two Scudetto titles resulted in an exodus of Juventus’ best players, including Gianluca Zambrotta, Lilian Thuram, Fabio Cannavaro, Emerson and Patrick Vieira. After Vieira’s departure, Juventus said it would not allow more players to leave.
