If Juventus et al are in fact relegated for next season, the result would be a free agency bonanza for other European clubs, writes the Daily Telegraph. Serie A champion Juventus, already close to offloading captain Fabio Cannavaro to Real Madrid, has confirmed it would sell seven of its players who featured in Sunday’s World Cup final if the club were relegated to Serie B as a result of the match-fixing scandal. Juventus would be faced with a crippling drop in income if found guilty, and would have to balance the books by selling Italy’s Gianluigi Buffon, Mauro Camoranesi, Gianluca Zambrotta and Cannavaro and France’s Patrick Vieira, David Trezeguet and Lilian Thuram. AC Milan, Lazio, Fiorentina and Juventus are all accused of trying to influence the appointment of referees during the last two Serie A campaigns. A decision could now come as early as Friday; Juventus’ board is expecting the club will be relegated, the Telegraph said.
