For the first time in years, the race for the La Liga title isn’t a foregone conclusion going into April. Merely five points separate the top three, with Real Madrid third on 51 points, Sevilla second with 54 points and Barcelona on top with 56. Both Real and Sevilla will be looking to gain valuable points on the league leader this weekend as Barcelona faces a difficult trip to Real Zaragoza (GolTV, Saturday 2PM EST), a team that’s lost just two of its 14 home matches this season.
On Sunday, Madrid hosts Osasuna (Closed-Circuit, Sunday 1 PM EST), a side that’s declined since last season’s surprising fourth place finish. The Merengues head into the weekend on the back of two successive wins since its 3-3 draw at Barcelona. Captain Guti knows the match is an important one: “This can be a key week for us to cut into Barca’s lead, although Osasuna are a very tough rival for us as they are hard to beat. We’re rooting for Zaragoza on Saturday.” Sevilla, held scoreless at Osasuna last weekend, will be looking to possibly reclaim top spot at home to Racing Santander (GolTV, Sunday 11 AM).
