Charlton became the second team from the Premier League to be relegated after losing, 2-0, at home to Tottenham on Monday. Bulgarian forward Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe scored for Spurs.
The Addicks follow Watford through the trap door to the second level of English soccer, leaving West Ham United, Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United to scrap it out on the final day of the EPL season on Sunday to avoid joining them.
Wigan must beat Sheffield United and hope West Ham loses at Manchester United to be spared relegation.
Sheffield United goes down if it loses to Wigan and West Ham picks up at least a draw at Manchester. If Wigan and Manchester United win, then West Ham goes down (barring a lopsided Sheffield United loss).
