When Juan Francisco Palencia debuted for Chivas USA on Saturday — a 3-3 tie against the MetroStars in which the 32-year-old striker scored twice — he became the seventh Mexican World Cup veteran to play in MLS. Here's how Mexican World Cup players have fared in MLS:

JORGE CAMPOS
MLS: The keeper-sweeper helped draw large crowds during MLS's 1996 inaugural season, his first of three in the league. He logged 43 regular-season and six postseason games for the Galaxy, which he helped to a runner-up finish in 1996. In 1998 he moved to Chicago, where he played only eight games, missing action while on World Cup duty and then losing his starting spot to Zach Thornton, the Fire's keeper in its 1998 MLS Cup win. In 16 games (357 minutes), he saw action as a field player and notched 2 assists. He assisted on 2 other goals while goalkeeper.
WORLD CUP: Campos started in goal in all eight games for Mexico in the 1994 and 1998 World Cups and was a reserve in 2002.

MISSAEL ESPINOZA
MLS: Attacker notched 10 goals and 5 assists in 26 regular-season games for San Jose in 1996 and appeared in three playoff games.
WORLD CUP: Did not see action as a reserve in 1994.

CARLOS HERMOSILLO
MLS: Forward notched 14 goals and 15 assists in 34 regular-season games for Los Angeles in 1998-99 and 5 goals and 1 assist in nine playoff games.
WORLD CUP: On 1986 squad but didn't see action. Started two games in 1994 World Cup.

LUIS HERNANDEZ
MLS: Forward notched 12 goals and 9 assists in 30 regular-season games for Los Angeles in 2000-01 and 3 goals and 5 assists in 10 playoff games. He scored the Galaxy's lone goal in its 2-1 loss to San Jose in MLS Cup 2001.
WORLD CUP: Started all four games in 1998 and scored four goals. Came on as a sub in three 2002 games.

JUAN FRANCISCO PALENCIA
MLS: Was supposed to begin season with Chivas USA, but stayed with Guadalajara and helped it reach the Libertadores Cup semifinals. Scored twice in his belated debut for Chivas USA, a 3-3 tie with the MetroStars Aug. 20.
WORLD CUP: Appeared in two games (98 min.) in 1998 and two games (21 min.) in 2002.

RAMON RAMIREZ
MLS: Defensive midfielder, 36 years old,  has appeared in 23 of Chivas USA's 24 games. Has 1 goal and 5 assists.
WORLD CUP: Started two games in 1994. Started first three games of 1998 campaign; missed second-round loss to Germany with red-card suspension.

HUGO SANCHEZ
MLS: The former Real Madrid star forward played in MLS at age 38 during its inaugural 1996 season and notched 6 goals and 3 assists for Dallas in 23 regular-season and 1 goal and 2 assists in two playoff games in his only season, during which Dallas averaged a club record 16,011 fans.
WORLD CUP: Played three games in 1978, four games (1 goal) in 1986 and one game in 1994.
