[COPA AMERICA] The Mexican federation has reversed its decision to pull out of all South American competitions and will participate in the 2011 Copa America in Argentina. The Mexicans had announced their pull-out after South American teams refused to play Mexican clubs in the Copa Libertadores for fear of swine flu infection.
Uruguayan and Brazilian teams refused to travel to Mexico, the center of the H1N1 virus which has infected nearly 19,000 people in 64 countries, and other South American countries refused to host the games.
Mexican federation president Justin Compean said its clubs will also rejoin the Copa Libertadores. Mexican participation in the South American competitions provide a significant source of television revenue.
Mexico first appeared in the Copa America in 1993 and finished runner-up. Its clubs joined the Copa Libertadores five years later.
