Middlesbrough's Egyptian striker Mido has slammed the English Football Association after suffering Islamophobic chanting from Newcastle fans during the weekend's 0-0 draw. He said the same thing happened last season, and the FA's refusal to act caused its recurrence.

"It happened again because after the first time the English FA did nothing," he told Egyptian TV. "The English FA said that it will be investigating the issue and will make use of the latest technology to stop such racist abuse of players, but I feel that nothing will happen."

An FA spokesman said: "We'll work with the clubs, and potentially police, to identify those responsible. The priority is to identify the individuals responsible and we would call for individuals found guilty to be banned for 10 years. We are committed to getting a hold on all forms of abuse and will continue our efforts."
