Following stern pronouncements in the Italian press that Milan’s current squad is now passed its sell-by date, Football Italia reports that the Rossoneri’s front office is already lining replacements for when the transfer window opens in June. Top of the list for Milan director general Ariedo Braida is Chelsea striker Didier Drogba. The 29-year-old Ivorian expressed interest in joining Milan in the past: “Milan came in for me last summer and it was very tempting,” he said earlier this season. Another possibility is Lyon striker Karim Benzema, who’s also a summer target of Manchester United.

To be sure, Milan has struggled to score goals. Midfielder Ricky Kaka is the club’s top scorer with eight; Drogba, who’s been injured for much of the season, has scored 14 in all competitions. Benzema, meanwhile, leads France’s Ligue 1 with 16 goals.

Milan has also signaled interest in Barcelona defender Gianluca Zambrotta, who would replace the retiring Paolo Maldini, and Fiorentina’s Frenchman, Sebastian Frey, who would take the place of out-of-favor goalkeeper Nelson Dida.
