Anschutz Entertainment Group, Inc. (AEG) has entered into an agreement to become the operator of three-time MLS Cup Champion D.C. United, effective immediately. The Anschutz Entertainment Group’s multiyear agreement includes an option to become the permanent investor-operator of the six-year-old professional soccer club. “AEG continues to show its strong commitment to the growth of professional soccer in the United States,” said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. “Their strategic vision for Major League Soccer combined with their expertise in managing sports entities will only enhance what is already one of the league’s top organizations.” After nearly five seasons under the ownership of Washington Soccer, L.P., United becomes the fourth MLS team affiliated with AEG. The company is currently the investor-operator of Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids and Los Angeles Galaxy. United will continue to operate with the club’s existing staff, including President and General Manager Kevin Payne and Head Coach Thomas Rongen.
