Major League Soccer has announced its 2007 schedule that allows for David Beckham to play with the Los Angeles Galaxy in every MLS city after his expected arrival in mid-July, more than half way through the 2007 season.
Beckham should make his debut Aug. 5 at FC Toronto — the first of four games on 13-day road trip on the East Coast. Beckham's Galaxy debut could take place as early as July 24 against Chivas Guadalajara in the opening game of the SuperLiga, the new competition featuring eight MLS and Mexican clubs. The Galaxy's game at FC Dallas on July 31 concludes group play in the SuperLiga. Dallas is the only team the Galaxy doesn't visit on its MLS schedule after Beckham's anticipated arrival.
In recent years, the MLS schedule was heavily concentrated on Saturdays. This year's schedule includes 25 regular-season games on ESPN2's ''MLS Primetime Thursdays'' and 25 Sunday games on Spanish-language networks TeleFutura or Galavision.
To showcase Beckham, the Galaxy faces a grueling late-season schedule with five back-to-back Thursday-Sunday games with one of both of them on the road. Los Angeles has no back-to-back Thursday-Sunday games before Beckham arrives. (New York, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC have only one Thursday-Sunday date, and Columbus and Kansas City have none.)
Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast 28 regular-season games, each one in a three-hour programming window entitled ôMLS Saturday on FSC.ö FSCÆs on-site coverage will include MLSÆs first-ever 30-minute pre-game show and 30-minute post-game show; all Fox Soccer Channel MLS games will also air in Spanish in two-hour programming windows on sister network Fox Sports en Espa±ol. HDNet, the first all-high definition national television network, begins its fifth season of MLS coverage in HD, airing 31 regular-season games, 27 of them on Saturday nights.
ABC will air the season opener on April 7 when four-time MLS champion D.C. United visits the Colorado Rapids for the first game at their DickÆs Sporting Goods Park and MLS Cup '07 Nov. 18 from Washington's RFK Stadium.
The regular season opens with five games on April 7 and concludes Oct. 21 when the Galaxy travels to Chicago.
