Sexual assault charges against D.C. United players Raul Diaz Arce and Mario Gori were dismissed today in Franklin County (Ohio) Municipal Court. “I thank God this is over,” said Salvadoran star Diaz Arce. “Now I want to concentrate on the season ahead. This has been very difficult, but now I look forward to a much brighter future.” The criminal cases pending against the two players were dismissed at the request of the prosecution. “Obviously we’re very happy the charges were dropped,” said D.C. United GM Kevin Payne. “We felt all along the system, if given the chance, would produce the right conclusion, and we think that’s what has occurred. We said from the beginning that we would support the players through the process and I think our judgement on this matter has been vindicated.” “This has been very trying on myself and my family,” added Argentine defender Gori. “I’m so glad this is over and now I just want to concentrate on winning a third championship for D.C. United.”
