Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Mauricio Cienfuegos will play April 3 at San Jose after revising his deal with Major League Soccer. The pact was agreed upon during a lunch meeting held April 1 in Los Angeles between MLS Commissioner Douglas L. Logan, Executive Vice President of Player Operations Ivan Gazidis and Cienfuegos’ agent Cory Clemetson. Per club policy, no financial terms of the contract were disclosed. “We are happy to put an end to the lingering questions whether Cienfuegos would stay or go,” said Galaxy GM Sergio del Prado. “He has been an integral part our club since the Galaxy’s inception and we are happy to march forward with him as part of the club.” Cienfuegos, 31, has played in both of the Galaxy’s first two matches of the season (2-0). He came in as a substitute in the club’s first game vs. Colorado (2-1 shootout win) and played all 90 minutes of regulation during the Galaxy’s 1-0 shootout win vs. Dallas last Sunday. A number of sources have indicated that San Jose forward and fellow Salvadoran Raul Diaz Arce has also agreed to a revised deal with MLS, although there has yet to be an official announcement on the subject.
