Major League Soccer teams selected 51 players in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft on Thursday afternoon.
Among the player selected were two players from NCAA Division I champion UC Santa Barbara — goalie Kyle Reynish (Real Salt Lake) and Ghanaian midfielder Eric Primpong (Kansas City). Other draftees of note included New Zealand international Jarrod Smith (Toronto FC), a 2006 Soccer America College MVP with West Virginia. Clemson goalie Phil Marfuggi, a 2005 Soccer America College MVP, went to New York.
MLS teams may begin pre-season training on Feb. 3. The Houston Dynamo and D.C. United have been granted permission to begin training Jan. 23 as they prepare for the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinals on Feb. 20 and 22. All MLS teams must be in roster and salary compliance on March 1 (18 Senior Roster, 10 Developmental Roster, 4 Senior International players).
