As expected, Cobi Jones is returning to the United States to play in Major League Soccer.
MLS has reached an agreement for the popular U.S. national team player to join the Los Angeles Galaxy from Vasca da Gama, the Brazilian club with which he was unable to gain a regular spot.
Jones, a product of suburban Westlake Village, Calif., and a star at UCLA, played every minute of the recent Gold Cup. He has 72 caps and six goals for the United States.
Jones, 25, joins Salvadoran Mauricio Cienfuegos and Ecuadorian Eduardo “El Tanque” Hurtado in coach Lothar Osiander’s attack.
Jones was expected to arrive at Los Angeles Airport on American Airlines flight 912 from Miami at 9:52 am Friday morning.
His first practice with the team will be Saturday at Occidental College. He will join his Galaxy teammates at a “Meeting the Galaxy” reception for fans later in the day, at 1:00 pm, at the Rose Bowl’s Court of Champions.
