The Colorado Rapids, left without an experienced goalie following the departures of Marcus Hahnemann (free agent now at Fulham in England) and Ian Feuer (contract not renewed), has acquired goalkeeper David Kramer from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for a second-round draft pick (#19 overall) in Sunday’s MLS Draft. The move brings the Rapids a veteran goalkeeping presence followingthe team’s Nov. 29 decision to decline the option on Feuer’s contract. Colorado now has two goalkeepers on the roster, including 1999 reserve keeper Russell Payne. Kramer, 27, has played in 68 games over the past four years for San Jose and the Los Angeles Galaxy, compiling a 28-36 record with a 1.81 goals against average. The move to Colorado actually marks the second time Kramer has played professionally in the state, as he played six games for the former Colorado Foxes in 1997. “David is a solid keeper who knows the league,” said Coach Glenn Myernick. “He will be given every opportunity to compete for the No. 1 job no matter what other additions we make between now and the beginning of the season at the goalkeeper position.” Following the trade, the Rapids still have three of the first 15 selections in the draft (#5, #7 and #15 overall).
