Forward Pete Marino scored both goals as the Columbus Crew beat the New England Revolution 2-0 in a pre-season exhibition match Feb. 28 in Pensacola, Fla.
Marino scored from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, and then converted on a fine pass from Rob Smith in the 49th.
New England controlled the ball for a good portion of the match, but was unable to find the net.
“We did show signs of progress in developing how we want to play,” said Revs coach Thomas Rongen. “but we still have a lot of work ahead of us.”
Paul Keegan, who recently returned to practice after recovering from mononucleosis, played the final 15 minutes for New England, which received some excellent second-half play from Argentine Alejandro Farias, who has played for Boca Juniors.
