Defender Cory Gibbs, a Florida product who played college ball at Brown, is leaving German club St. Pauli after two and a half seasons to join MLS's Dallas Burn.
Gibbs joined St. Pauli when it was in the First Division in the 2001-02 season at age 21. The defender played 25 games and notched one goal. But St. Pauli was relegated to the Second Division for the 2002-03 season, and then dropped to the Third Division for the 2003-04 season.
Gibbs debuted for the U.S. national team in 2003, saw action in the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup, and collected seven caps.
''I spoke to a lot of people regarding Cory before we consummated the deal and I heard nothing but good things about him both on and off the field,'' said Burn coach Colin Clarke. ''I talked to [U.S coach] Bruce Arena, who spoke very highly of him and regards him to be one of the best young American central defenders.''
Gibbs, a starter throughout his career in Germany, was set to transfer to Second Division Jahn Regensburg before pulling out of the deal in January.
