The Ohio Expositions Commission today voted 6-2 to approve the form and content of a land lease with the entity the Columbus Crew has formed to build a new stadium at the Ohio Expo Center, site of the Ohio State Fair. After consideration by the State Controlling Board, the lease will be held until a final site location for the stadium is approved by the Ohio Expositions Commission. At that time, the lease will be forwarded to the Ohio Department of Administrative Services and the governor’s office for final approval. Under the terms of the lease: ò The Crew would lease 12.5-15 acres to be located in the north parking lot of the Ohio Expo Center. ò The Columbus Crew Soccer Stadium LLC will assume the total cost of construction, operation and maintenance of the stadium, which is initially planned for 22,000 seats with potential expansion to twice that capacity. ò The lease would run for an initial term of 25 years with a renewal option of an additional 25 years. ò Rent would be renegotiated at the end of the initial 25 year term. ò Revenues to the OEC would be comprised of two components– a fixed rental payment and a share of parking revenues. ò Fixed rent for the first year will be $50,000. This fixed rent will be adjusted every five years for inflation. ò The OEC will also retain 25 percent of parking revenues derived from events held at the stadium..
