The Dallas Burn acquired American forward Hamisi Amani-Dove in a lottery. To create a roster spot for Amani-Dove, the team waived midfielder Ted Eck. Amani-Dove, who was originally drafted by the MetroStars in the 1996 inaugural draft, has since been playing abroad. He has had stints in the Netherlands, South Korea Austria and most recently has been playing in Israel. Amani-Dove was a standout at Rutgers University, where he played from 1992-95. He finished his collegiate career fourth all-time in school history in points with 108. He led the team in scoring in 1993 with 39 points and again in 1995 with 35 points. Eck was the first player drafted in Burn history, going third overall in the 1996 inaugural draft. He has appeared in 156 career regular season games with the Burn, tallying 12 goals and 17 assists. Eck had appeared in only nine games this year.
