D.C United finished 2-1-0 on its tour of El Salvador, falling to Luis Angel Firpo, 2-1, after beating host Aguila, 2-1, in the Copa Taca in San Miguel, and defeating Alianza, 1-0, before 10,000 fans in San Salvador to round out the five-day tour. Luis Angel Firpo-D.C. United (2-1) Playing with 10 men for the entire second half, D.C. United fell on a controversial penalty kick in the 88th minute to First Division club Luis Angel Firpo at Estadio Juan Francisco Barraza in San Miguel. Dragon, which tied Aguila, 1-1, in the first game of the doubleheader, lifted the Copa Taca trophy and was proclaimed champion of the quadrangular, whose primary objective was to raise funds to rebuild Estadio Barraza. Referee Moises Argueta unexpectedly ejected United head coach Thomas Rongen in the 46th minute for arguing a call. Three minutes earlier, Argueta had given United right back Adrian Serioux his marching orders with his second caution of the match. But Argueta was not done. In the 88th minute, he awarded a penalty kick to Firpo on a clear dive by Raul Toro, who was battling with Ray Goodlett inside the box. United started eight players who are currently on trial, the only regulars in the lineup being Judah Cooks, Antonio Otero and Sergio Salas. United had gone ahead, 1-0, in the 24th minute thanks to an own goal by Firpo defender Mario Joya, with the help of his keeper, Misael Alfaro. Joya played an innocent ball back to Alfaro but the keeper mis-timed his clearance and the ball rolled into the empty net. Alfaro made up for his blunder three minutes later when he struck a marvelous free kick just outside the box that evened the contest, 1-1. Nov. 3 in San Miguel Luis Angel Firpo 2 D.C. United 1. Alianza-D.C. United (0-1) Forced to play shorthanded for the second consecutive match, D.C. United ended its tour of El Salvador with a 1-0 victory over local power Alianza before an estimated 10,000 fans at Estadio Cuscatlan in San Salvador. United was forced to play with nine men for the last 19 minutes of the match after referee Nery Zepeda issued defender Judah Cooks his second caution in the 71st minute. D.C. was already playing a man down because Richie Williams was sent off the pitch in the 34th minute. Williams was issued a yellow in the 34th for delaying the game, then immediately was given a red for arguing the call. United head coach Thomas Rongen was obligated to make wholesale substitutions in the second half, given the numerical disadvantage of his team. It got so frantic for United after the Cooks ejection that forward A.J. Wood, who checked into the match for Edson Buddle, was forced to play defense, pairing up with Carlos Llamosa in the middle for the last 16 minutes. Brazilian Liedson Muniz, the only non-roster player in the starting lineup, scored the lone goal of the match in the fourth minute to give United the victory. On the first corner of the game, Bobby Convey served a bending ball that Muniz headed home with a sharp stinger. Nov. 5 in San Salvador Alianza 0 D.C. United 1. Goal: Munoz 4.
