D.C. United, which has had to endure the wrath of Washington's Salvadoran community since it traded Raul Diaz Arce after the 1997 season, has acquired 19-year-old Salvadoran forward Eliseo Quintanilla. As a ''transitional international,'' Quintanilla, who trained with D.C. United for two weeks, will not count against the team's three foreign-player limit. The left-footed forward, who played for El Salvador's U-17 national team, made his full national team debut in February of 2000 and has three caps. ''Eliseo is a naturally gifted, well balanced, quick footballer,'' said United coach Ray Hudson. ''He's creative with an excellent finishing touch in front of goal. Eliseo is a fine young prospect.'' Quintanilla, who began his pro career with FAS at age 16, arrives from Aguila. He has scored 24 goals in the Salvadoran First Division. He scored five goals during the 2002 Clausura championship. After Diaz Arce was traded, the Washington-area Salvadoran fans have frequently cheered against D.C. United when an opponent arrived with a Salvadoran player in its lineup. The club was unable to win back their support even after bringing back Diaz Arce for short stints in 2000 and 2001.
