D.C. United’s U.S. international defender Eddie Pope underwent surgery Feb. 28 to remove a cyst that was causing pain in his right foot. The operation was performed by D.C. United team doctor Dr. William Hazel in Fairfax, Va. A two-inch incision was made and the cyst was drained. It had attached itself to a nerve running along the inside of Pope’s foot, just below the ankle bone. If the nerve was undamaged, Pope could return to action in 10 days to two weeks, once the incision heals, but it will be several days before any lasting effects are known.
