Salvadoran international Raul Diaz Arce made a triumphant return to his home town, tallying two goals to lead MLS’s D.C. United past First Division Aguila, 2-1, in the first match of its three-game tour of El Salvador at Estadio Juan Francisco Barraza in San Migue. Diaz Arce displayed his scoring prowess to the estimated 7,000 fans that showed up at Estadio Barraza to welcome home its local hero with goals in the 12th and 34th minutes. He received a round of applause when he left the pitch in the 63rd minute in favor of Brazilian Liedson Muniz. United took the initiative from the start with good ball control and sharp passing by two of its young guns in midfield: 17-year-old Bobby Convey and 20-year-old Jose “Chino” Alegria. United head coach Thomas Rongen opted to include one of nine players on trial in the starting lineup: Canadian Adrian Serioux looked shaky at times but overall had a good performance on the right flank of the midfield. Fellow trialists Muniz and midfielder Sam Franklin also checked into the match in the second half. United midfield engine Marco Etcheverry played for the first time after successfully undergoing minor knee surgery on Oct. 3. The Bolivian international received a standing ovation when he entered the match for A.J. Wood in the 75th minute. Nov. 1 in San Miguel Aguila 1 D.C. United 2. Goals: Jiminez 73; Diaz Arce 12, 36.
