Players from the defunct Miami Fusion and the Tampa Bay Mutiny will discover their futures during FridayÆs Dispersal Draft. HereÆs how it works: ò All former Fusion and Mutiny players will be placed into a pool for Friday’s Allocation and subsequent Dispersal Drafts, along with all first round picks in the 2002 SuperDraft held by Miami and Tampa Bay. All lower 2002 SuperDraft picks held by the Mutiny and Fusion (other than picks they may have previously traded away) will be eliminated, including any picks for which they had traded. ò Prior to the Dispersal Draft, teams due Allocations for the 2002 season will participate in an Allocation Draft and may select any one player/pick on the Dispersal Draft list per Allocation. The MLS Competition Committee has approved the allocations and selection order for those allocations as follows: ALLOCATION DRAFT SELECTION ORDER 1. Colorado Rapids (failure to make the MLS playoffs) 2. New England Revolution (failure to make the MLS playoffs) 3. D.C. United (failure to make the MLS playoffs) 4. Colorado Rapids (unused 2001 allocation) 5. New England Revolution (loss of Leonel Alvarez and Mauricio Wright) 6. New England Revolution (loss of William Sunsing) 7. Dallas Burn (retirement of Lubos Kubik) 8. Los Angeles Galaxy (Loss of Luis Hernandez) 9. San Jose Earthquakes (unused 2000 allocation) Immediately following the Allocation Draft, the League will conduct the Dispersal Draft. The draft order is based on the natural SuperDraft order, as follows: DISPERSAL DRAFT SELECTION ORDER 1. Colorado Rapids 2. New England Revolution 3. D.C. United 4. Kansas City Wizards 5. Dallas Burn 6. MetroStars 7. Columbus Crew 8.Chicago Fire 9. Los Angeles Galaxy 10. San Jose Earthquakes THE PLAYERS The players below will be available in the Allocation and Dispersal Drafts. In addition, there are three (3) 2002 SuperDraft picks available to the 10 MLS teams. Those picks are: ò Tampa Bay Mutiny’s 2002 first round pick (#1 overall) ò Tampa Bay Mutiny’s 2002 first round pick (#3 overall – via Colorado and New England) ò Miami Fusion’s 2002 first round pick (#10 overall) MLS ALLOCATION / DISPERSAL DRAFT PLAYER POOL Player (Former Team) Alavanja, Lazo (Miami) Addo, Joseph (Tampa Bay) Asad, Shaker^ (Miami) Barclay, Devin^ (Tampa Bay) Beckerman, Kyle^ (Miami) Bilyk, Jeff (Miami) Bishop, Ian# (Miami) Brown, Adin (Tampa Bay) Cassar, Jeff (Miami) Curtis, Ali (Tampa Bay) Denton, Eric (Tampa Bay) Diallo, Mamadou# (Tampa Bay) Dunseth, Brian (Miami) Henderson, Chris (Miami) Jair** (Tampa Bay) Kartes, Gus (Tampa Bay) Keller, Josh (Tampa Bay) Llamosa, Carlos (Miami) Lowery, John (Tampa Bay) Marshall, Tyrone (Miami) Mastroeni, Pablo (Miami) McCarty, Chad (Tampa Bay) McKinley, Ivan (Miami) Pena, Danny (Tampa Bay) Pineda Chacon, Alex# (Miami) Preki (Miami) Quill, Eric (Tampa Bay) Ralston, Steve (Tampa Bay) Rimando, Nick (Miami) Rooney, Jim (Miami) Serna, Diego# (Miami) Sonora, Diego# (Tampa Bay) Torres, Johnny (Miami) Trittschuh, Steve (Tampa Bay) Woan, Ian** (Miami) ^ Project-40 Player #- Senior International **-Discovery Player 2002 MLS Dispersal Draft Timeline Friday, January 11, 2002 — Allocation Draft and Dispersal Draft Tuesday, January 15, 2002 — MLS Waiver Date – All teams in compliance with roster rules. Thursday, January 17, 2002 — MLS Waiver Draft Of note: Currently, Dallas owns Miami’s second round 2003 SuperDraft pick, Los Angeles owns either a third round 2003 SuperDraft pick to be acquired by Tampa or Tampa’s second round 2003 SuperDraft pick and Colorado owns Tampa’s third round 2003 SuperDraft pick. In order that the elimination of Miami and Tampa Bay do not extend into future MLS SuperDrafts, additional picks in the 2002 SuperDraft shall be allocated as follows: 1. In lieu of the second round 2003 SuperDraft pick acquired from Miami previously, Dallas shall receive a second round 2002 pick in Miami’s “natural” position. This pick will immediately follow the 2002 second round draft pick currently held by D.C.United, which it had previously acquired from Miami. 2. In lieu of the conditional 2003 SuperDraft pick (either second or third round) previously acquired from Tampa Bay, Los Angeles shall receive a third round 2002 pick in Tampa Bay’s “natural” position. This pick will immediately follow the Mutiny’s actual natural 2002 third round draft pick currently held by Chicago. This pick shall rank ahead of the third round pick acquired from Tampa Bay by Colorado (see note 3 below) because it was a conditional second round pick. 3. In lieu of the third round 2003 SuperDraft pick previously acquired from Tampa Bay, Colorado shall receive a third round 2002 pick in Tampa Bay’s “natural” position. This pick immediately follows the pick created for Los Angeles under paragraph 2 above.
