FC Dallas has signed 21-year-old Colombian midfielder Juan Carlos Toja, who has been with Argentine club River Plate on loan from Colombia's Independiente Santa Fe.
''Juan Carlos is an exciting central midfield player who likes to get involved in the attack,'' said FC Dallas coach Steve Morrow. ''He's a player with huge potential and one who's already had a lot of experience with the Colombian U-20 team, with Sante Fe, and recently with River Plate in Argentina. We feel he'll bring a good balance to our midfield.''
Toja did not see league action for River Plate but notched a goal in Libertadores Cup play. The left-footed midfielder – described as ''strong and classy'' in a BBC Libertadores Cup report last year — debuted for Sante Fe at age 18 and played for Colombia in its 2005 U-20 South American championship win and at the 2005 U-20 World Cup.
