The Los Angeles Galaxy has acquired Jose Vasquez and Gerardo Laterza from the Orange County Zodiac, the team announced July 1. Vasquez, 28, appeared in 14 games for the Galaxy in 1996, scoring 2 goals and adding two assists. He was a key part of the lineup during Los Angeles’ 12-game winning streak at the start of the season. Vasquez joined the Zodiac after he was waived by the Galaxy in February. Laterza made his A-League debut for the Zodiac on June 12, after playing for Carolina earlier in the year. He spent time with both Cerro Porteno and Guarani of the Paraguayan First Division, and was with Guarani during Copa Libertadores play in 1996. “I think these two players will add a new dimension to the team,” said Los Angeles interim coach Octavio Zambrano. “They’re both good players and play the type of soccer I like to see.” To trim the roster down to 20, the Galaxy waived Brad Wilson, Ante Razov, and John Jones.
