The Los Angeles Galaxy's bid to reach the final of the preseason La Manga Cup failed when it lost to Norwegian club Odd Grenland, 1-0, on Monday.
The Galaxy, which finished second in Group B action with six points (one point behind Grenland), will play in the third-place match against Viking (Norway) of Group A on Friday, February 28.
Grenland will challenge 11-time defending Norwegian champion Rosenborg in the La Manga Cup championship.
''I think that the opponent was well prepared and played with great desire,'' said Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid. ''Our goal in preseason is to look at players, prepare and win. Today, we forgot the last part.''
Odd Grenland defender Alexander Aas beat goalkeeper Dan Popik, making his Galaxy debut, for the only goal.
