The MLS champion Los Angeles Galaxy has acquired the rights to South Korean World Cup captain Hong Myung Bo.
Hong, the first Korean player in MLS history, joins the Galaxy from Pohang Steelers of Korea's K-League after a bid to sign him after the 2002 World Cup fell through.
Hong, who captained South Korea at the World Cup, joined Pohang this year after spending five seasons in the J-League with Bellmare Hiratsuka and Kashiwa Reysol.
Hong, 33, played in four World Cups for South Korea and won the Bronze Ball (third in MVP balloting) at the 2002 World Cup.
