In a deal made just two days before the MLS trading deadline, the New England Revolution has sent All-Star Chiquinho Conde and midfielder Sam George to the Tampa Bay Mutiny for forward Giuseppe Galderisi and defender/midfielder Ivan McKinley, it was announced Aug. 13. In re-acquiring Galderisi, New England welcomes back one of it’s original MLS allocations, who never fit into then coach Frank Stapleton’s plans and was subsequently waived. The Italian forward, who teamed with Alexi Lalas at Padova in Italy, joined Tampa Bay later last season and has tallied five goals and six assists in 16 games for the Mutiny this year. “Beppe’s experience with the Revolution during our inaugural season was certainly not a happy one,” said GM Brian O’Donovan. “With the many changes made during the off-season and a whole different atmosphere around the team, I believe his return will be decidedly positive as we compete for the playoffs and the Cup.” Defender McKinley has scored one goal and added three assists in 19 appearances for Tampa Bay this season. He will add depth to a Revolution defense that has yielded eight goals in the team’s last two games. “We are extremely pleased to have acquired two players of such talent and experience,” said Revolution head coach Thomas Rongen, who worked with both Galderisi and McKinley as coach of the Mutiny in 1996. “Beppe and Ivan will be as valuable for their leadership as they are for their on-field contributions.” Tampa receives Mozambique native Conde, who had six goals and five assists in 17 games for New England, and midfielder George, a 1997 supplemental draft pick who made 15 appearances for the Revs this season, scoring once.
