Kansas City Wizards defender Sean Bowers will be out four to six weeks after undergoing surgery March 7 to repair a nueroma (an inflammation of nerves in the foot area). The condition had been aggravated at training camp.
“[It] was more inflamed than the doctors thought, but I will work hard to rehab to get back in the lineup as soon as possible,” said Bowers, who added that he hopes to return by Kansas City’s clash with Los Angeles on April 5.
On the field, the Wizards have recorded a win and a draw over the past two days. Kansas City drew 1-1 with Finnish First Division club FinnPa on March 6, with Jake Joy scoring the lone Wizards goal. Kansas City rebounded with a 1-0 victory over the A-League’s Jacksonville Cyclones on March 7. Damian Silvera scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute, while keeper Mike Ammann recorded his second straight preseason shutout.
