The MetroStars didn’t have to wait long for their trade of Henry Zambrano to garner them an actual player. MLS allocated Colombian forward Alex Comas to the MetroStars, who acquired the allocation in the earlier trade with Colorado. They expect to receive another allocation later this week in place of Yugoslavian midfielder Sasa Curcic. “Alex Comas is one the more talented strikers to come from the competitive Colombian league” said Sakiewicz. “We look to him to fill the scoring void this team sorely needs, as we continue to build the team for the upcoming 2000 MLS season.” Comas, 28, spent the last three years playing with Atletico Nacional in his native Colombian League. Prior to Nacional, he played domestically for Medellin (in 1991), Union Magdalena (’92), Juniors of Barranquila (’93), Deportes Quindio (’94), and America Cali (’95). The 6-foot-1, 170-pound player spent the 1996 season playing for San Lorenzo in Argentina. Known as a scorer, he led Colombia’s ’92 Apertura tournament with 10 goals for Union Magdalena. He has also played for Colombia’s national team. Comas joined the MetroStars in preseason camp on Feb. 1 and signed a contract the night of Feb. 13 to officially join the team.
