Bolivian international forward Jaime Moreno, currently the leading scorer in MLS, has signed a contract extension that will keep him with D.C. United through at least the year 2000, D.C. announced today. Moreno’s current contract was scheduled to expire at the end of the 1998 season. The base years of the new deal run through 2000, but option years could keep him in the nation’s capital well into next century. “We’re thrilled to have this long-term agreement with Jaime in place,” said D.C. United president and GM Kevin Payne. “We think he’s the most exciting young offensive player in Major League Soccer, and he’s an extremely important part of our team. Jaime’s a player we can build our team around for a number of years to come.”
