The Tampa Bay Mutiny have called up Jamaican international forward Paul Young from their A-League affiliate, the Charleston Battery The Kingston native will be reunited with Tim Hankinson, who recently took the reins in Tampa and coached Young previously at Syracuse University and with the Battery. Young has made numerous international appearances for Jamaica, but was one of the final cuts from the 22-man team that went to France. He has remained with Charleston and scored the lone goal in the A-League clubs 1-0 exhibition win over the Mutiny June 17. Because Young is a foreign player under Major League Soccer (MLS) rules, the Mutiny waived Brazilian midfielder Gilmar to meet league-mandated foreign-player requirements. Young, 30, joined the Mutiny in practice today and will travel with the team to Dallas for Sunday’s game against the Burn. Tampa Bay GM Nick Sakiewicz said the call-up is for an indefinite period.
