The MetroStars opened their preseason with a 4-0 win over the U.S. under-17 national team.

Only six of the 22 players Coach Bob Bradley used were with the Metros at the end of the 2002 season. Bradley got goals from imports Dillon Sheppard (South Africa) and Mario Rosas (Spain) and an assist from Argentine trialist Daniel Garnero.

He also looked at veteran Spanish defender Victor Torres Mestre, Guatemalan Joaquin Alvarez and Chris Sanje from the MetroStars Black and former Americans abroad Troya Cowell and Gabe Valencia.
