The New England Revolution was the only team to pick up a player through the MLS waiver allocation draft today, selecting Greg Lalas with the second pick of the first round. Each of the other nine teams passed.
Lalas, a defender who played in three games for the Tampa Bay Mutiny this past season, will join his brother Alexi on the Revolution. In addition, he will be reunited with new Revs coach Thomas Rongen, who left Tampa Bay after one season.
MLS teams willl be allowed a maximum of 26 players on each club’s 1997 spring training roster. Teams may add to their rosters through the waiver draft, the 1997 supplemental draft (to be held after a player combine in January or February), the 1997 college draft, and additional assigned players. Regular season rosters will consist of 20 players, of which five may be internationals.
