Ross Paule (Colorado Rapids) scored in the 13th minute to lift the U.S. Project 40 team to a 1-0 victory over the Sunderland reserves on Dec. 11. New England Revolution midfielder Johnny Torres assisted on the goal. The U.S. Pro-40 team will look for a fourth consecutive victory when it faces the Everton reserves on Dec. 16, but it will be without defenders Brian Dunseth (New England Revolution) and Tim Sahaydak (unassigned), who returned to the U.S. after the Sunderland match due to left quadricep strains. MLS Rookie of the Year Ben Olsen, who was to join the team after D.C. United’s match against Vasco da Gama in the Interamerican Cup Dec. 5, did not travel to England because of an ankle injury. Paule will be with the team for the Everton match, but will then return to the U.S. due to prior commitments and will miss the team’s final match (against the Manchester United reserves) on Dec. 19. Project-40 1999 Schedule Released
U.S. Pro-40 opens its sophomore A-League season on Thursday, April 15, 1999, against the Orange County Zodiac. U.S. Pro-40, formerly a member of the Western Conference’s Pacific Division, will accrue standings in the Central Division of the Western Conference during the 1999 campaign. U.S. Pro-40’s schedule format has also changed for 1999. Playing every game on the road for the second consecutive season, Head Coach Lothar Osiander and his club will play each team in the Western Conference twice and the Richmond Kickers and the Hampton Roads Mariners of the Eastern Conference once for a total of 28 games. With six 10-day breaks and several three-to-six day stints that allow training with the players’ MLS teams, the 1999 schedule is expected to produce less travel fatigue, more pre-match training, and additional player evaluation time by MLS coaches. “We are pleased with our schedule this year,” U.S. Pro-40 GM Jan Osborne said. “We’ve been able to incorporate several 10-day breaks, thus allowing the players more time with their respective MLS club. This gives the MLS coach a more thorough chance to see the player’s development and match fitness.” Here is the U.S. Pro-40 Select schedule:| Date | Opponent | Kickoff (ET) |
