Mauricio Cienfuegos scored a pair of goals and 2000 Olympian Sasha Victorine added another as the Los Angeles Galaxy upset the China national team, 3-1, in Kun Ming City on Feb. 21. The Galaxy, on a 10-day, three-match tour of the Far East, which includes a pair of upcoming matches against Verdy Kawasaki and Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan’s J-League, jumped out to the lead when Cienfuegos scored from the left side of the penalty area in the 20th minute. After several missed scoring opportunities by both teams, Victorine, one of three Sydney Olympians on the Galaxy, scored from the right corner of the penalty area in the 70th minute. In the 74th minute, Zhang Yuning, who was China’s top scorer at the recently completed King’s Cup, halved the Galaxy lead with a left-footer from inside the penalty box. Cienfuegos quelled the Chinese comeback when he drilled home a penalty kick in the 87th minute.
