U.S. Pro-40 Select picked up its second consecutive victory on its tour of England yesterday, when Major League Soccer’s young talent defeated Sheffield Wednesday’s reserves in a 2-1 battle. Forward Nino DaSilva (Kansas City Wizards) knocked in U.S. Pro-40’s first goal in the eighth minute from a pass by midfielder Carlos Parra (Miami Fusion). Goalkeeper Matt Jordan (Dallas Burn) was unscathed by Sheffield Wednesday in the first half, recording three saves and smothering a penalty kick in the ninth minute. It was not until the 65th minute that Wednesday was able to put itself on the board with an equalizer by Junior Agogo. Despite U.S. Pro-40 scoring opportunities, including a breakaway from midfielder Eric QuilI (Tampa Bay Mutiny) that went just wide of the far upper right corner and a curling shot by Parra that hit the goal post, it was midfielder Steve Jolley (Los Angeles Galaxy) who insured the victory for the Americans in the 71st minute with a powerful score, his second goal in two games. U.S. Pro-40 continues the five-match tour on Friday, December 11, when the squad looks for a third win against the Sunderland Reserves in Sunderland.
