MetroStars forward Steve Rammel, recently acquired from the Colorado Rapids in exchange for a 1999 Supplemental Draft pick, has retired from Major League Soccer. The Rutgers graduate has accepted a position as the assistant soccer coach at UCLA. “We’re disappointed by Steve’s decision, because we thought he had the chance to play an important role with the MetroStars,” said Metros GM Charlie Stillitano. “But we understand his reasoning and wish him all the best in his coaching career.” Rammel scored the first hat trick in MLS history in 1996 while playing for D.C. United. He was traded to Colorado during the 1997 season.
