Colorado Rapids 1999 first-round college draft pick Andrew Mittendorf underwent successful surgery to repair a torn posterior medial meniscus in his left knee on Feb. 12 in Denver. The forward out of Lehigh University will miss two to three weeks of training while rehabilitating the injury with the team’s medical staff in Denver. Mittendorf picked up the injury at the Umbro Select College All-Star Game last week in Ft. Lauderdale. The injury was diagnosed by Rapids trainer Jay Mellette after Mittendorf complained of discomfort following his arrival this past week in Denver. “This is the first injury of this kind for Andrew, and we expect a complete recovery and for Andrew to return following his rehab with no effects from the injury,” said Mellette. Colorado is currently training in San Diego, Calif. and edged San Jose 1-0 in the two teams’ preseason opener on Feb. 14.
