In the wake of the recent tragedy that took place at Columbine High School, the Colorado Rapids have postponed their Major League Soccer game originally scheduled for Saturday night, April 24, against the Chicago Fire. “It is with a heavy heart that we have decided that playing a soccer game this weekend is just not something that we wish to do right now,” said Rapids GM Dan Counce. “Our focus and the focus of this community need to continue to be in Littleton.” “For now, we just want the families and friends of all those affected to know that we support them and the Rapids will do whatever we possibly can to be of help and of service.” “We support the Colorado Rapids and their decision to postpone the game,” said Fire GM Peter Wilt. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the people of Littleton.” Details regarding the date for the postponed game will be announced in the next few days. Beginning with next Saturday’s game at New England, the Rapids will wear a blue and silver, Columbine High School patch on the right sleeve of their jerseys for the remainder of the 1999 Major League Soccer season.
