New England's Taylor Twellman notched his 15th goal of the season in last weekend's 5-4 loss to the MetroStars, whose double strike by Youri Djorkaeff put the Frenchman among MLS's top 10 scorers with nine goals.
Twellman has five regular-season games left to score five goals and become the first player to reach the 20-goal mark in two seasons. (He notched 23 in 2002, his first MLS season.)
Twellman is on pace to become the third player, after Carlos Ruiz and Stern John, to lead the league in goals scored in two seasons. Twellman was tied for No. 1 with Carlos Ruiz on 15 goals in 2003; Twellman's 23 goals in 2002 were second to Ruiz's 24.
Columbus' Stern John's 18 goals tied Jason Kreis for the No. 1 spot in 1999 and he was the outright leader in 1998 with 26 goals.
