Two late goals lifted the defending MLS Cup Champion Kansas City Wizards to a 2-0 victory over the Dallas Burn in MLS preseason action at Lockhart Stadium. The Wizards (2-1) currently stand in second place with 11 overall tournament points, while the Burn (1-2) finished their three-game exhibition slate with five tournament points. Defense dominated the contest, as the first half remained scoreless. Dallas fired two shots at 2000 Honda MVP Tony Meola and Dallas keeper Adam Zapala was untested by the Wizards. The scoreless game appeared destined for overtime until veteran Kansas City midfielder Mo Johnston broke the ice in the 83rd minute of play. Fellow midfielder Chris Klein centered the ball to Johnston who blistered a 24-yard shot into the upper right corner of the goal. “It was a great ball from Chris Klein and it was just a matter of picking the corner,” said Johnston. “I don’t normally score from that far out.” Johnston, who returned to the Wizards after a brief off-season retirement, is entering his 21st professional soccer season. “I was injured for the last three months of last season, but I feel fine now and my fitness is good,” Johnston said. “I will take things one season at a time.” Kansas City added an insurance tally two minutes later as forward Chris Brown took a feed from Matt McKeon and walked in on Zapala. Brown, a second half substitution, collected the ball at the left of the box, dribbled several steps to right and powered the shot beyond the diving Zapala. “I think we’re on schedule, it is a long preseason but we have to do it'” said Wizards’ Head Coach Bob Gansler. “We’re starting to have a good feel for the new guys and we’re starting to mesh” March 22 in Ft.
