MLS announced today that Columbus Crew forward Stern John has been added to the Eastern Conference All-Star team for Major League Soccer’s fourth All-Star game on Saturday, July 17 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. John will join Crew teammates Brian McBride, Thomas Dooley, Brian Maisonneuve and Robert Warzycha, all of whom were named to the Eastern roster last week. The game will be televised live on ABC beginning at 3:30 p.m. (ET) The 1998 MLS Budweiser Scoring Champion was added to the roster due to a nagging groin injury that has hampered D.C. United striker Roy Lassiter. Both players will report to San Diego for the All-Star game, but John will replace Lassiter in the Shoot-Out and Power Shot portions of the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge on Friday evening. John is currently the eighth leading scorer in MLS with 20 points from nine goals and two assists. He has scored six goals in The Crew’s last five matches leading up to the All-Star break, and scored two goals in Columbus’ 3-0 win over the Carolina Dynamo in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday.
