Miami avenged its only loss of the season with a resounding 5-1 win over defending MLS champion Kansas City. The win gave the Fusion a 9-1-1 record and came a week after it buried Dallas, 6-2. The victory was the Fusion’s ninth straight at Lockhart Stadium, tying the MLS all-time record, and it also continues a club record six-game win streak and its nine-game unbeaten streak. Alex Pineda Chacon recorded two goals and three assists for the Fusion. Diego Serna also scored two goals and added two assists. Serna’s two goals gave him five in two games, tying the MLS record. In San Jose, Landon Donovan had two spectacular goals to lead the Earthquakes to a 3-1 win over Los Angeles. The win also extended the Quakes’ unbeaten streak to nine games and gave them a six-point lead in the Western Division after Donovan’s final game before heading to the World Youth Championship. In other MLS action, Dallas beat listless D.C. United, 3-0. New England beat Tampa Bay by the same score to extend the Mutiny’s losing streak to a club record six games, and Chicago edged Columbus, 1-0, handing Greg Andrulis his first loss since taking over as Crew interim head coach.
