The San Jose Clash has announced that it will play its first three home games of the 1998 season at Stanford Stadium. The field at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, which is the Clash’s regular home stadium, is being widened from 65 to 70 yards to meet minimum standards for hosting international games, such as World Cup qualifiers and the 1999 Women’s World Cup. The torrential rains that have drenched Northern California have caused delays in the project so that it will not be completed by the start of the 1998 MLS season. San Jose’s home opener against Colorado, will still kick off at 7:30 p.m. (PT). The two other games at Stanford will be April 5 at noon against Dallas and April 11 at 2:00 p.m. (rather than 7:30 p.m.) against Chicago. San Jose also announed two time changes. The July 29 game at Chicago will now kick off at 8:00 p.m. (PT), and the Sept. 3 game at Tampa Bay will start at 5:00 p.m. (PT).
