Three players — defender Francis Okaroh, midfielder Steve Armas and forward Seth George — were selected in the MLS Waiver Draft. The players were selected from a pool of 13 players that were waived on Wednesday, as clubs made roster moves in preparation for the 2001 season. The San Jose Earthquakes selected Okaroh with the first overall pick, then sent him to the MetroStars along with San Jose’s second round pick in the 2001 MLS SuperDraft (13th overall) in exchange for the MetroStars first round selection (10th overall) in the SuperDraft held on Feb. 4, 2001. Armas went to the Tampa Bay Mutiny with the eighth pick in the first round of the Waiver Draft. The Chicago Fire selected George with the eleventh overall pick. The remaining teams passed on their first-round selections, with the Earthquakes, Mutiny and Fire passing on their second-round picks.
