D.C. is winless no more; the Quakes lose their second straight; the Wizards end the Metros unbeaten streak while extending their own; and the world changes forever as the Galaxy opens its new stadium with its first victory.
BEST GOALS: In a rather barren week with only eight goals (two of them penalties) scored in four games, the nod goes to Josh Wolff's first goal as a Wizard.
Wolff timed a run perfectly to latch onto a clever feed by Igor Simutenkov and smash a shot past Metros keeper Tim Howard from a tight angle.
Davy Arnaud celebrated his first start for Kansas City with a dribbling run and left-footed shot that left Howard flailing. Carlos Ruiz's header of a rebound in the Galaxy's 2-0 defeat of Colorado wasn't elegant, but it was the first goal scored at the Home Depot Center and is thus historic.
Ruiz also jazzed up the sellout crowd of 27,000 with a back-post bicycle kick that went straight to keeper Scott Garlick.
BEST ASSIST: Ben Olsen helped D.C. get off the winless schneid by curling a cross that Dema Kovalenko chested down and fired into the net for the goal that clinched United's 2-0 win over the Fire.
BEST SAVES: Steve Jolley headed a ball off the goal line in the Metros' 2-1 loss to Kansas City. Zach Thornton robbed Kovalenko of a second goal by diving to turn away his close-range header.
HERO: Brian McBride scored from a goalmouth scramble in the 85th minute to give the 10-man Crew a 1-0 win over San Jose and bail out midfielder Diego Walsh, who'd been ejected with 12 minutes to play.
STAT: The 1-0 result was the first time in league history the Crew and Quakes had finished with that scoreline. In every other one of their 26 regular-season and playoff meetings they have produced at least two goals and never have they played a scoreless tie.
HOT AND COLD FIRE: After scoring four goals in each of its last two games, the Fire was shut out for the fourth time while losing to D.C. United, 2-0. Chicago started the season by being shut out in three of its first five games and is one of two teams (D.C. is the other) to have played a pair of 0-0 ties.
STREAKS: D.C. United had not won in eight games, going back to its 4-3 loss in the regular season finale last season. Kansas City ran its unbeaten streak to seven games by beating the Metros.
